Resources DetailsTitle: Handbook for productivity measurement and improvement-[Text]Publisher: Portland:Productivity Press,1993Notes: The hundred or so essays in this book explain productivity concepts, measurement methods and uses of the methods. The first section describes the current productivity situation in today`s economy. Section 2 describes basic concepts underlying the measures and the methods that can be used to improve productivity in today`s environment. Important among these is the concept that productivity and quality are, in reality, one and the same - the satisfaction of customer expectations, without error, without waste. Five other sections deal with productivity measurement and improvement in specific kinds of work: manufacturing, the service sector, staff departments, profit centers and the total company, and government and nonprofit institutions. Measures and methods are described along with case examples. Section 8 provides important information on designing the information system and feedback measures to make productivity improvement happen. Section 9 deals with measures of outputs and outcomes to assure sustainability. Chapters in this section describe some of the new accounting and economic measures that are revolutionizing management reporting and providing new and better measures of success. Section 10 offers counsel on the emotive power of all organizations - their people. People at each level and function can develop measures, and use the measures to improve their productivity. How to involve everyone in the success of their work and their organizations is described in these chapters. Included are chapters on the opportunities for using the measures and the improvement for sharing the benefit and motivating ongoing and continuous improvement. >> More |
