National Cleaner Production Centre

The Ministry of Education and NDU has entrusted the National Productivity and Competitiveness Council (NPCC) the responsibility for hosting the National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC). To that effect, the Ministry of Environment and NDU organised a half-day brainstorming session on the establishment of an NCPC, at Ebene on 30 March 2005. During this session, participants, which grouped various stakeholders, discussed the concept, scope and objectives of a Cleaner Production Centre.

Innovators Mauritius Award II

The Innovators Mauritius Award aims to start a paradigm shift in apprehending and facilitating innovation. It is organised to make the idea of innovation concrete to people of all walks of life, to invite people to think out-of-the-box and to develop a culture for innovation. The most essential part is therefore the thinking process that will expand into a new mindset.

Competitiveness Foresight

Having moved from a monocrop economy to a manufacturing one (albeit a quasi mono product economy), Mauritius has to re-orient itself yet again if it wants to maintain or improve on its quality of life. What is that new direction?

The Competitiveness Foresight had as it main objective to identify the future orientations for Mauritius. The discussions during the three-day meeting ploughed up several points of convergence. A drastic rethink of the development approach is needed if Mauritius wants to grow at 7-8% per annum. The previous sources of growth (sugar, garment, finance, touris,) face different forms of challenges which limit their potential contributions in the future.

?INNOVATION is the specific tool of entrepreneurs, the means by which they exploit change as an opportunity for a different business or a different service. It is capable of being presented as a discipline, capable of being learned, capable of being practiced. Entrepreneurs need to search purposefully for the sources of innovation, the changes and their symptoms that indicate opportunities for successful innovation. And they need to know and to apply the principles of successful innovation.? - Peter Drucker
