TitleReducing causes of distraction by outdoor games [Computer File]
SummaryThe project aims at reducing the effect of distraction caused by outdoor games taking place on playground during school hours. The Green Team in collaboration with the students, staff and management of the institution worked on reorganization of classroom setup and timetable and making use of other sport infrastructures. As a result of this re-structuring, distractions caused by outdoor games have been regulated, percentage of passes has increased, staff, students and management are better prepared to participate in problem solving and decision making processes.

TitleReducing high rate of absenteeism among pupils [Computer File]
SummaryThe aim of this project is to reduce the high rate of absenteeism at school. The team carried out a survey, applying the basic techniques of problem solving. The management, teachers, pupils and parents were involved to bring down the percentage of absenteeism at school. The team started a sensitization campaign on a weekly basis applied some existing school rulers and introduced new ones to combat this evil. A fall in absenteeism at school was noted during the months of May -July 2001. The team targeted to maintain its level below 5% each year.

TitleHow to improve student effciency in the HGC library [Computer File]
SummaryAfter identifying problems hindering the library efficiency, the team set up some palliative measures to reduce the overcrowding. As immediate actions, the team placed signboards for silence and also to help teachers for linking class activities with library facilities. Amongst others, a suggestion box helped to follow-up on feedback of students. A request was also placed for new telephone line for Internet facilities. A new photocopying machine was purchased by the PTA. After implementation, the library efficiency improved by 78.9%.

TitleReducing boredom in class [Computer File]
SummaryHaving identified that most of the problems were related to poor self discipline which itself was connected to boredom and lack of motivation, the team proposes to reduce the level of boredom in class and to create an awareness among teachers and students. This can be achieved by the sharing of findings, to develop a positive attitude to class activities and to make teachers more customer oriented by using the PDCA (Plan Do Check Act) methodology.

TitleSocial harmony in ethnic diversity [Computer File]
SummaryThe project aims mainly at raising national public consciousness on the fact that there should be "Social Harmony despite the Ethnic Differences" in the island of Mauritius. Through this project, the team wanted to promote kite flying as a beautiful, colorful and peaceful activity with highly symbolic character aiming at harmonizing differences. Reviving traditional kite flying also develops artistic creativity based on the laws of Physics and Mathematics. The team saw the kite activity as a way for all kinds of pupils at school to work harmoniously together with no real differences among them despite their ethnic or educational differences.

TitleReducing breakages in classrooms [Computer File]
SummaryThe project focuses with broken tables and chairs, pulled-off and torn curtains, damaged blackboards, doors, sockets, electric wires and broken window panes. The team held out meetings and visited each class to observe the damage done. Question sheets on the topic were given to some students in each class. The CAT held meetings with all class-captains and explained their action. A sensitization action was agreed on and photographs of all the breakages in the classrooms were stuck on the notice board.

TitleLack of discipline at school [Computer File]
SummaryMembers of the team came to the conclusion that lack of discipline in class was a more salient issue at school and looked into its causes. A survey was carried out regarding discipline, teaching process, infrastructure, rules and regulation of college and others. An action plan was proposed and some suggestions were implemented by the school administration. There were some clear results of the immediate action plan. The team led an in-house campaign about the various effects of lack of discipline, and proposed to setup a disciplinary committee in the school.

SummaryThe objective of the group is to solve all kinds of problems it faces everyday in class. For the CAT's convention, the group focused on scribbling on tables since those things written on tables prevent a good flow of work in the class.

SummaryMuda in searching for information is a current problem in almost every school in Mauritius. Pupils can spend an entire day or even an entire week searching for specific information concerning their school or studies and yet, don't get it at the end as in many cases. By working on this project, the team assessed the real importance of the QC concept and team work as well as open-mindedness.
