Why Computer Clubs?

NPCC is encouraging the setting up of Computer Clubs around the island for innovation, problem solving, networking, bridging the digital divide and having fun at the same time. The objective is to have cyber active citizens.

Members will get the opportunity to discover the joy of learning and relearning and to put their ideas to work and convert their ideas into solutions.

More specifically, it aims at fostering:

Collaboration among users for
Content development and
Community building

Computer clubs offer an environment where a community of learners, including youngsters, mentors and adults interact to use technology as a tool for learning and creative expression.

Why should you join a Computer Club?

  • Learn about the possibilities offered by Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Enhance depth and breadth of ICT skills
  • Create communities of users, to share experience, discuss problems, find solutions together and to keep abreast of developments in the ICT field
  • Get access to alternative low-cost technologies
  • Get to know hardware.

Who can join a Computer Club?

  • Students
  • Teaching and administrative staff
  • Parents
  • Anybody who has either followed the CPP (Computer Proficiency Programme) course, or studied computer science

How to form a Computer Club?

  • Computer clubs may be school or community based.
  • A minimum of seven persons can join together to form a computer club.
  • They will have to contact NPCC to collect and fill in the necessary forms for registration of their club.
How can NPCC assist the Computer Clubs?
  • Registration of computer clubs
  • Training for the mentors or trainers
  • Act as a facilitator for computer clubs
  • Free access to the Knowledge and Innovation Zone at the NPCC
  • Training on open source software and other ICT skills
  • Organisation of special events for Computer Clubs

How to get access to computers?

A few suggestions …

  • Purchase new computers
  • Use existing infrastructure for example school labs
  • Enterprises or organizations making computers available as part of their corporate social responsibilities
  • Getting old computers and recycling them
